Am I Required to Collect Sales Tax?
EstateSales.NET does not require you to collect sales tax on your Marketplace auction or sale, even if sales tax is required in your area. However, we highly recommend that you follow tax laws and collect sales tax when necessary.
How Do I Set Up Sales Tax Collection For My Sale?
For collection of sales tax, you will need to establish a tax nexus. (To learn more, visit Taxjar.com.)
- Go to Marketplace Settings: From the navigation bar in your account, click on Marketplace, then Marketplace Settings.
- Click Sales Tax Settings
- Add New Nexus: Enter the name and address and select if you wish to collect sales tax.
How Does EstateSales.NET Determine the Amount of Tax to Collect
EstateSales.NET uses a third-party, TaxJar, to determine the amount of sales tax collected based on the location of the sale and the buyer. States vary on whether they collect sales tax based on destination or origin of the item. See here for more details.
Taxjar automates sales tax calculation at checkout, and EstateSales.NET provides reporting to you for remittance.
