Refunding Marketplace Orders

You can provide refunds to buyers in either a partial or full amount for a completed sale on the Marketplace. Be sure to have the Order Id handy. Once issued, a refund cannot be canceled. Some refunds—those issued shortly after the original charge—appear in the form of a reversal instead of a refund. In the case of a reversal, the original charge drops off the customer’s statement, and a separate credit is not issued.

To refund a Marketplace Order:

1. Log into your account.
2. Click View Orders and search for your order.
3. On the item card, click Order Details.
4. Click Refund Order.
5. Choose the refund type, leave notes for yourself, and message the buyer, if necessary.
6. Click Refund Order.

Note: Square will refund the buyer's fee, and it takes 2-7 business days to process a refund. It can take another 2-7 business days (depending upon the bank) for the refund to post to your account.

Note: Stripe does not refund the buyer's fee. Stripe submits refund requests to the customer’s bank immediately. The customer sees the refund as a credit approximately 5-10 business days later, depending upon the bank.
